Is Big brother watching you? Well, maybe not, but the new controversial Real ID act is starting a stir up on capitol hill.

Events Leading to the security initiative

The Read ID Act was "enacted" due to an increase in military spending budget. It was originally brought fourth on top of an act, "Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act for Defense, the Global War on Terror, and Tsunami Relief, 2005." So, you can also say that it's purpose is to serve that of our American safety against the war on terror and Tsunami relief?

What is this act doing?

The Read ID Act entails government issued driver's licenses that follow the department of Homeland security's new standards...It's hopes are to ensure that anyone without these IDs cannot enter federal buildings, open bank accounts, or fly on commercial airlines.

As far as the commercial airlines, I have a bone to pick with the security there. I can honestly say I've made it through security with a lighter, with lipstick, with lotion and with matches. I can also honestly say that I've had my matches, lighters, lipstick and lotion taken from me and thrown away...Inconsistent? Just a little.

Why the controversy?

There are many bones picked concerning the Read ID act, but some of the main issues are privacy and the federal government's involvement. It began during the republican reign in congress, which I find interesting in numerous ways, considering the fact that republicans supposedly want less central government involvement, and while the act bleeds with the big brother aura, democrats are daily called socialists...hmmm?

My issue is the larger picture of the effects of such an act. Just like one federal government court case can change, add and delete laws, this act will cause the separation of state and federal government to become a little fuzzy. W

Myspace Takes Action Against Copyrighted Content

Myspace recently announced their implementation of a "Take Down Stay Down" function to control the posting of copyrighted content.

I've been following the Google and Youtube.com merger, through the ups, the downs the copyrights and the big business marketing initiatives. The most controversial and interesting aspects of the Google merger is that they have been facing huge copyright issues with their online videos, posing the question of whether or not this partnership was "smart."

It's true, that most industry experts predicted the copyright problems, and some even suggested it would cost Google Big money...Which it has, though hardly skimming the surface of it's growing empire.

Dear MySpace, Enhance Our Experience Not Your Advertising Dollar

On to the story at hand,

MySpace recently took action on their specific site against copyrighted video submitted to their site.

Basic MySpace Copyright Precautions Overview:

When content is submitted copyright owners have access to ban content due to infringement upon their content's privacy. Once the content is banned from the site, any further upload of the banner content is disabled.

Pretty sweet huh?

I'm not sure what the process of banning content is, but if the content is banned too frivolously it could become a violation of freedom of speech and online freedom. I love predicting problems that may occur when big online business make copyright, security and content control changes.

So my questions are...

How easily can copyright owners ban content?

How is a copyright owner established as...well...a copyright owner, giving them this access?

If they ban content, is it taken down right away, or monitored by MySpace admin?

We will see what is to come with this new technology, whether or not Google and Youtube implement it, and if the privacy issues do come into play

Stephen Hawking Travels Space-Time!

Google Shareholder's Proxy Statement

I don't really have time to read Google's share holder information, and the fact that I'm not a share holder and can't comfortably afford even one share in Google, makes the idea of me reading the Google proxy statement even more ridiculous.

Who am I kidding? I will spend precious daytime, work hours reading that damn document, as if it means something to me, then I will probably talk about it as if it means something to me. This is because there was something on slashdot.com about interesting information in it regarding Freedom of Speech and censorship, dunno but I'm going to check it out.

3D Glasses Back In Style

Disney recently came out out "Meet The Robinson's" a 3D animated film and one of the first of it's kind. I haven't seen the movie, but now I definitely want to check it out. Apparently, the technology used for this type of 3D animated effect is a far cry from what I remember about 3D, like the SpiderMan Ride at Universal studios, or big goofy red glasses that only seemed half real.

The company that has been working on the project is Read D, who's president and co-founder Joshua Greer looks like he might have just stepped out of a comic book store, and doesn't look a day over 25.

What makes Read D and Greer special as far as revolutionizing the 3D cinema effect, is that they have been working hard, diligently and without reserve. They focused completely on 3D cinema effects, an industry that might have appeared almost dead and long gone to most of us who remember getting a head ache, while feeling the pinch of Back to the Future style glasses pinning down on our temples.
