Warner Bros. Entertainment and a company called Digital Cinema Implementation Partners are proposing a new system, where films would be delivered to theaters via satellite and also delivered sooner than what is typical. The system would give theaters a lot of flexibility and customization of film presentation, when, how and where.
It's about time movie theaters offered customers the same quick, fast and easy distribution of movies that we can get over the web. What is great about this new technology is that if a particular area has a high demand for an indie film, or low budget flick, they can display it in an empty theater for just a few days and not risk spending the money on the film, waiting for it's delivery and only having a small audience.

The benefit for the industry is that there will be less piracy due to the availability of movies of all kind at the theaters. Basically, movies are pirated because consumers want to see it NOW. With this new availability to the movie theaters consumers are most likely going to opt to see their film inside the theater.
