Alex Tew created the Million Dollar Home Page during a rainy afternoon contemplating his future monetary prospects, and how they would pay his way through school. In case you weren't aware of it, the Million Dollar Home Page was an idea materialized by Alex Tew in 2005. The plan was to sell 10X10 Pixel real estate on his home, for $1 per pixel, $100 per block. Advertisers, companies, individuals, anyone could buy the pixels, but advertisers had more to gain from it. He is envied by all and most website geeks pondering their brains for the next big idea, were beating their brains when he sold the Million Dollars worth of pixels! A picture of the 22 year old scrap of England proving his sincerity in using the money for school, by holding up his Uni acceptance letter.
Well, he's starting up a new idea! Well, essentially the same idea but just with a few little additions. He will be selling the pixels at $2 each, but once all of the pixels have been sold, he will randomly choose one of the buyers to win $1 million! Not bad for a measly $200 investment plus advertising opportunity. He will also donate $10,000 to charity, and of course keep the rest for himself.
The hype is what really gave Tew's idea wings, because without it no one would have given it a second glance. Personally, I beleive there is a reason why no one has duplicated his success with such an endeavor. It's because the hype has fizzled and it's mighty time to reinvent the wheel. Simply because it is Alex Tew might be enough to ensure it's success, but I'm not convinced just yet. Regardless, it has proved to be one of the most innovative ideas of our internet world...
